I am not a politician, nor do I want to be. I am a working-class father, husband, brother and neighbor who has experienced medical bankruptcy, unemployment, tax debt and disillusionment with government, who is also committed to making a difference.
I grew up in Los Angeles to a working-class family. I was raised by a single mother until she remarried when I was in high school. My step-father was a Teamster and he and my mom both had to work to make ends meet. They are loving, gracious parents who didn’t know what to do with a creative kid who was only interested in playing guitar in a punk band and drawing pictures. I grew up during the genesis of Reaganomics, when the ultra-rich had their taxes cut almost by half and military spending was increased. All of this was done at the expense of social services and regulations. This was an era where the government was supposed to be solving problems, creating equality, lowering the deficit, creating prosperity and security for all citizens. Instead, we had to rely on MTV to ”Rock the Vote”, and grassroots activism to raise awareness, create empathy and demand change!
Looking back on my teenage experience, I see many parallels to the horrors I witnessed since then. I could be picking up my guitar and writing anarchy anthems to scream into a microphone, but instead I’m replacing my leather jacket with a suit, shaving my face every day, and taking a stand for EVERY AMERICAN THRIVING! I feel empowered to take on the transformation that our government needs and I’m enrolling you and every American to feel empowered too!
Last year’s election inspired me as I witnessed millions of Americans overcome their resignation and get involved in politics at a grassroots level to bolster Bernie Sander’s campaign into a near juggernaut. I joined those millions of Americans voting for the first woman Democratic presidential candidate in our nation’s history, propelling Hillary Clinton to a decisive win in the popular vote!
I am continuing the stand for progress and common sense by running for United States Senate to represent the values and policies that all Utahns are demanding and to give the power of legislation back to the people.
For too long, government power has been given to those who can afford to buy it. “WE the PEOPLE…” has become, “THEY the POLITICIANS…” I have seen compromises and harmful policies created by both sides of the aisle, which brought me to the conclusion that the possibility of “both sides working together” doesn’t necessarily mean allowing “we the people” to create the government we want.
Consider that the labor movement, civil rights movement, women’s movement, consumer movement, anti-war movement, and the environmental movement are all social movements that grow out of the rising expectations of a prosperous middle class. This is why politicians are funded by corporations, special interest groups and lobbyists. This gutting of the working people out of the middle class has become their primary goal.
I am taking responsibility for my resignation and cynicism by taking a stand for transforming government. To quote Bernie Sanders, “Real change never occurs from the top on down, always from the bottom on up.” I am the bottom. We are the bottom. It is up to us to create real change.
I am asking you to stand with me and be the cause of progress. I will stand with you and be your voice in and your access to the United States Senate. Together we can reach the goal of EVERY AMERICAN THRIVING.
EVERY AMERICAN THRIVES WHEN THEY ARE GIVEN ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE, WHICH LIES AT THE HEART OF BOTH A HEALTHY POPULATION AND A HEALTHY ECONOMY.
EVERY AMERICAN THRIVES WHEN THEY ARE NOT RESTRICTED IN THEIR EDUCATIONAL PURSUITS, NOR BURDENED BY THE RISING COSTS OF STUDENT LOANS AND COLLEGE TUITION.
EVERY AMERICAN THRIVES WHEN THE RISKS TO OUR ENVIRONMENT ARE REALIZED AND APPRECIATED, AND ACTIONS ARE TAKEN TO RESTORE AND PRESERVE OUR LANDSCAPE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS TO ENJOY.
EVERY AMERICAN THRIVES WHEN THEY ARE OFFERED A GROWING, PROSPERING JOB MARKET AND GUARANTEED A LIVABLE WAGE.
My name is Mitchell Vice and I am committed to having the conversation about transforming the unimaginable into the possible. We will transform the way we are represented regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, political party, or who we love. What matters is that our voices are heard. I am running for The United States Senate to ensure that conversations are being had, that you are being listened to and that every American has an equal opportunity to thrive in this already great nation.
I humbly ask you for your support. Thank you.
